PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Table of Biodiversity: To Green, To Nourish
Living Table of Concertation Workshops
Nicole Fournier/InTerreArt during Journées de la culture
September 20, 2012 - During Les Journées de la culture, the maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges (MCCDN) and the Regroupement des arts interdisciplinaires du Québec (RAIQ) are delighted to invite you to participate in two workshop/performances given by Nicole Fournier on the 29th and 30th of September, 2012. These workshops, part of the site-specific "ecovention," Table of Biodiversity: To Green, To Nourish, will take place starting at 2pm on the terrace of the maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges situated at 5290 Côte-des-Neiges, in Montreal.
Table of Biodiversity: To Green, To Nourish, was initiated during the RAIQ's symposium Interdisciplinary Territories: Art and the Environment, held in May 2012 at the MCCDN. The work proposes a biodiversity of "living spaces" that invites public participation. Arranged in a circular living table, "nests" made of branches and reclaimed fabrics, as well as planters filled with earth and wrapped in white cloth - linen tablecloths stained with personal stories - contain a biodiversity of wild, cultivated and medicinal plants. At once symbolic, poetic and pragmatic, the work is inspired by life cycles and the process of growth and decay. The work also addresses issues of sustainable development and of community involvement - and emphasizes the beneficial properties of plants to the environment and biodiversity.
During the Journées de la culture on September 29 and 30, 2012, the public can participate in the last two workshops being given by Nicole Fournier:
Saturday September 29 starting at 2pm: Workshop: Harvest-Cook-Taste
Discussion on the properties of plants, preparation and tasting.
Sunday September 30 starting at 2pm: Workshop: Draw-Cook-Nourish (with the skin of your fingers)
Emphasis will be placed on the colors and textures of the transformation of a nourishing living matter.
At the intersection of performance, visual art, urban agriculture, architectural research and public art, the interdisciplinary Table of Biodiversity: To Green, To Nourish can be seen until October 15, 2012.
